David Merkel

After graduating from the Professional Program in Accounting at the University of Texas at Austin, David began his career as an auditor at Arthur Andersen in the Energy Division. When he transitioned into industry, he held various roles at Calpine Energy Services, Texla Energy Management, and Direct Energy. Prior to joining Spotlight Energy as Chief Financial Officer in February 2016, he spent almost 2 years as CFO at OTC Global Holdings, an energy commodity brokerage firm. David has over 20 years of experience in energy commodities, mostly related to natural gas marketing, in areas including financial reporting, credit management, financing, and risk management.
