Richard Deutsch

Richard Deutsch is a partner in the Houston office of McGuireWoods LLP. He is co-chair of the Firm’s International Arbitration Group. His practice includes representing oil and gas companies in international arbitrations worldwide, including investor-state arbitrations against Argentina, Egypt and Mexico, among others. He also sits as an arbitrator in international arbitrations. Richard regularly advises clients on commercial and political risk mitigation in international dealings, whether through contractual provisions or corporate structuring to gain protections afforded by international investment treaties. Richard is on the Advisory Committee for the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, and the Advisory Board for the Institute for Transnational Arbitration. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law where he teaches both International Commercial Arbitration and International Investor-State Arbitration. Prior to attending law school, Richard was a sportswriter at Sports Illustrated, The Miami Herald and The Washington Post.
